MAISON ORION is a multifaceted design studio based in Los Angeles, California. While primarily engaged in the design of buildings, our focus is rather on questions of life and what qualities make for a graceful and uplifting habitat for human beings. We explore architecture from its traditional roots - firmness, commodity and delight. Far from being traditional or nostalgic, we seek to engage in a dialogue with these fundamental and everlasting concerns. Our references and inspirations come from myriad sources, but a borrowed quote from the Slow Food Manifesto expresses the motivations that underpin all the work:

A firm defense of quiet material pleasure is the only way to oppose the universal folly of Fast Life.

Architecture has the potential to positively modify our understanding of the environment around us. Scott M B Gustafson believes in the power of design to support equality and solidarity, to value human rights, and to reaffirm the dignity of every human being.

Scott was born in Libertyville, IL and graduated from the College of Architecture, Planning and Design at Kansas State University. He is a LEED Accredited Professional with the United States Green Building Council, a member of the American Institute of Architects(Associate), the American Society of Landscape Architects (Affiliate), and the International Union of Architects. Scott is a board member of the Los Angeles chapter of Architecture for Humanity, the international humanitarian organization which provides pro-bono design services to communities in need.

MAISON ORION is providing architectural support for this project to see that it is realized with faithfulness to Herman's vision with the absolute minimum of modifications.
